Real Wedding: Lindsay + Karthik

I love celebrating love and new beginnings.  Every wedding I have the honour of being part of creates beautiful memories to look back and reflect on.  When I think of this wedding from my past season, I feel it holds an extra special place in my heart because Lindsay, the bride, is often seen by my side on wedding days as one of my rock star assistants.  It’s always a privilege to be chosen by couples to help coordinate their special day but when you are chosen by an industry peer, there really is no greater compliment a planner can receive.

Lindsay and Karthik’s I Do’s took place on the grounds of Dyment’s Farm in Dundas, Ontario. Looking back at all the beautiful moments captured that day by the talented Zekar Photography, none bring a bigger smile to my face then the moments captured from the ceremony.  I mean, come on! Exchanging vows overlooking the town of Dundas? How picturesque! What a perfect backdrop!  So utterly dreamy and romantic.  I suppose a big thank you to Mother Nature is needed for her part in making this peak ceremony happen.  The dark skies of the day certainly had me on my toes and when we were minutes away from starting the processional and I do mean mere minutes, could you believe rain drops could be felt? Eeek!!! But Mother Nature miraculously pulled through and held that rain off.  Every couple wants bright and sunny skies on their wedding day but look at the stunning beauty that can be captured when the skies are moody.

One of my biggest loves from Lindsay and Karthik’s wedding is how they beautifully weaved each of their cultures throughout the day. Lindsay’s dad being Scottish, wore a traditional kilt and of course no Scottish wedding would be complete without a bagpiper. Doug Wickham provided the recessional music and played the Bridal Party in for the Grand Entrance.  Karthik’s Indian background was highlighted with Mehndi designs on our bride’s hands.

Another love and stand out for me from this wedding are the florals. Lindsay and Karthik entrusted the task to Colleen from Petal 2 the Metal Mobile Flower Shop and she NAILED it.  Being in this industry, I certainly have a weakness for fresh blooms but the combination of textures, rich shades and light tones found in the bouquets, centrepieces and other various elements like the welcome sign were simply magical.

So This Is Love Featured Style Shoot

Oh boy friends!!! 2018 is off to a beautiful start for so many reasons and THIS is one of them as last week this moody and utterly romantic creative shoot was featured on So This is Love. Cue the happy dance! The opportunity alone to simply be involved as planner/stylist and collaborate with this team of amazing woman was enough to make my heart beam with happiness but to have it recognized by others in the industry…well, it truly leaves one with such a rewarding feeling.

There are so many elements to fall in love with that I honestly think it’s impossible to pick a favourite. Originally our vision for this creative shoot included freshly fallen snow but of course Mother Nature had a different idea in mind that day giving us overcast skies and plenty of fog. And you know what?  That’s ok because those gloomy foggy skies were so much of a better fit to highlight our colour palette of rich and bold shades. Who knew fog could create so much beauty! Seriously? Have a look at those to-die-for images in the field it created. Totally swoon worthy!! That fog paired with lush greenery created the ultimate fairytale forest setting for our couple.  Accenting with soft lit lanterns, a white wooden rustic table and long glass vases with floating votives added the perfect finishing touches to our natural setting.  Our wedding cake featuring gold foil and a fresh floral arrangement is beautiful enough to stand on its own but we chose to complement it with a fun sweet treat for any age…s’mores!

As always, I am so grateful and tremendously proud to have this creative shoot in my portfolio and to finally be able to share these dreamy photos with you all is SUPER exciting.

WedLuxe.com Featured Style Shoot

Oh friends! My heart is bursting with gratitude and I am beaming with pride as this magnificent team and I are finally able to share with you a style shoot we collaborated on back in May.  Never could I have imagined the experience that was waiting for me when Shelley from Wine Country Floral emailed me in on a drury cold December day asking if I wanted to participate in a spring 2017 style shoot with her and Tamara Lockwood  (Side note: I adore Shelley as a human being and to say I LOVE her gorgeous creations is an understatement so without any hesitation  I was in!!).  A few creative meetings later we set our shoot date for May 3rd and started assembling our dream team.  Everyone on this team brought their A game and I can honestly say I have never had a project come together so effortlessly.

For this style shoot, we were inspired by Mother Nature’s magnificent beauty during blossom season, fresh fruit and the picturesque grounds of our Niagara region location. We loved the idea of incorporating a red sangria station complete with a mini-tower of mini-pies in addition to our lightly textured cake trio, which we of course topped with berries and blooms. The dress we featured and draping of the harvest table with a sheer linen were chosen specifically to add touches of soft, flowy elegance to our setting. Our romantic intimate tablescape with gold accents, rustic chairs and a long floral centrepiece, was the perfect complement to the striking red and white barn exterior.

As the date of the style shoot was getting closer, we all started looking at our weather apps, just as every bride will do leading up to her wedding day.  Every report was the same – gloomy rainy weather for the whole week with even thunderstorms on Wednesday, the day of our shoot.  Fantastic! Not! I now found myself giving myself the same pep talk I give my brides about not being able to control the weather and even if it rains the day will be beautiful.  Except I truly didn’t know how we would pull this one off in the rain.  Given how effortless everything was up until this point I should have had better faith in Mother Nature because as it turned out, even she on our side.   That particular week in May saw a record breaking amount of rain and it came down every single day that week except Wednesday! And friends I do mean rain every day and all day – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Wednesday however, brought sunshine and clear skies so much sunshine and clear skies that I ended up with a sunburn on my forehead, nose and the top of my feet!

I am so proud to have this shoot in my portfolio and I cannot tame my excitement that today it is featured on the WedLuxe blog!!

The Wedding Planner Magazine Style Shoot

What a thrill it was to lead a team of talented creatives for this style shoot which was featured in the pages of The Wedding Planner Magazine.  Given it was my first time participating in a shoot, I couldn’t be more proud of how it came together in the end.  A beautiful gemstone, aquamarine provided the inspiration behind this style shoot.  From the light blue of the sky to the deep blue in the ocean, aquamarine is known for its range of blue hues, sometimes even with a faint greenish shimmer. However, we were inspired to reflect a pure clear blue.

With exposed brick walls and wood floors bringing a natural raw charm, the vision was to create a dreamy and romantic setting by infusing the space with aquamarine, soft peach, pale blush, greens and white.  To add a touch of elegance to the vision, we subtly incorporated gold accents into the guest table with mercury votive candles, chiavari chairs, flatware and floral containers. Our stationery tied our look together by bringing in the gold and showcasing soft romantic elegant features in the design.  We also featured a peony bloom in all pieces as well. Gorgeous layered linens, a birch arbor with hanging florals and candles along with the sugar crystals adorning the main cake beautifully added extra touches of romantic detail to the sweet table.  The high and low florals, filled with lush peonies, garden roses, bleeding hearts and delphiniums, truly breathed romance into the space.  A floral trend we are continuing to see in bridal bouquets is the horizontal bouquet. To best highlight this type of bouquet, we opted to pair it with a simple yet stunning lace wedding dress. Our bride’s look was completed with shades of soft blue and blush in her eye makeup and her elegant up-do featured a delicate beaded band.

Pantone Colour of the Year – Rose Quartz and Serenity

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year 🙂 Yes, the holiday season is in full swing with all the cheer, eggnog and shopping going on but earlier this week, Pantone, the world’s colour authority, announced the 2016 Colour of the Year. Or more accurately Colours of the Year.

That’s right! Pantone went rogue this year by announcing not one but two shades to share the title with this year. As always, these will set the trend in design from furniture to appliances and of course, weddings.  So here it is, 2016 Pantone Colours of the Year (drum roll please)…Rose Quartz and Serenity!

Pantone 2016 ROSE QUARTZ AND SERENITY

Post image via Pantone: Introducing Rose Quartz and Serenity

I really should give you a minute or two to swoon over and take in these colour beauties.  So feminine, pretty and soft for a gorgeous wedding palette.  I couldn’t help myself in gathering some wedding inspiration focusing on these lovelies.  These hues of soft pink and muted blue remind me of everything calm, peaceful and tranquil like yoga, meditating and a picture perfect sunrise.

Eye Candy Galore – Beautiful Brooch Bouquets

For most couples, the bridal bouquet is considered a wedding day staple but what happens if you, or your fiancé, have an allergy to beautiful blooms?  Or maybe you just want to wow your guests by taking an unexpected yet personalized approach with your bouquet? Whatever your reason, I say no problem! From feathers to paper to ribbons, there are so many chic options that are not only gorgeous but also truly unique and one-of-a-kind. Oh and let’s not forget a favourite around here, the brooch bouquet, which is easily customized to suit your theme and colours. Whether you treasure it forever as a keepsake (psst…use it later if you renew your vows!) or pass it down to the next bride in your family for that ‘something old,’ brooch bouquets are simply stunning and add that touch of elegant sparkle to your big day.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2015 – Marsala

With this being the first post of the year, let me first start by saying Happy New Year!!!!

As the holiday season has now come to an end, I thought it was fitting to make my first post of 2015 highlighting the Pantone Colour of the Year just in case you missed it between all the Christmas parties, shopping and wrapping presents.  So here it is, the 2015 Pantone Colour of the Year is (drum roll please)… Marsala!

Dramatic yet elegant, rich and warm, when I see Marsala I immediately think of a fabulously satisfying glass of red wine.  What I love most about it though is it’s equal appeal to both men and women.

What do you think? Want to know more about Marsala? Check out Pantone’s site here

The Wedding Pixie’s Top 5 – Celebrity Wedding Dresses of 2014

In 2014, we’ve definitely seen some of the biggest names in Hollywood walk down the aisle and tie the knot.  From Kim and Kanye to Adam Levine to Brad and Angelina and of course most recently, George Clooney, the list of celebrities who came down with wedding fever this year seems to go on and on…and on!  While there are still 3 months left in the year, I may be jumping the gun to be doing this now but I just couldn’t wait to put together my Top 5 list of Celebrity Wedding Dresses of 2014. Enjoy!

1. Casey Wilson – Married David Caspe on May 25th

When this Happy Endings’ actress walked down the aisle earlier this year, her wedding went under the radar thanks to Kim and Kanye, who also tied the knot the same weekend. While the world was giving focus to Kim’s dress, I fell in love with Casey’s lacy Monique Lhuillier creation. Sure, there are similarities between the two dresses but I think Casey did it so much better with her long, romantic, semi-sheer sleeves, which are just pure perfection. Come on…SO. PRETTY. To top it off, as a sucker for personal touches, I love how she had a piece of her mother’s wedding dress sewn into her dress for “something borrowed.”

2. Jessica Simpson – Married Eric Johnson on July 5th

Stunning is the only word that first came to mine when I saw Jessica’s strapless champagne and gold multi-layer tulle gown. This exquisite Carolina Herrera princess gown featured delicate gold embroidery and a cathedral length veil.

3. Lauren Conrad – Married William Tell on September 13th

Known for her young, modern and sophisticated style, I was anxious to see Lauren’s look for her walk down the aisle and let me tell you, she didn’t disappoint. Her Badgley Mischka two-tone Chantilly lace dress with crystals and pearl beading is simple and chic yet glamorous.

4. Amal Alamuddin – Married George Clooney on September 27th

With her gorgeous custom-made Oscar de La Renta gown, Amal may have been propelled into the media spotlight by marrying Hollywood’s Most Eligible Bachelor but she is quickly becoming a style icon on her own . In one of the most star-studded weddings of the year, Amal walked down to the aisle to George in an off the shoulder, French lace gown with embroidered pearl and crystal embellishments. The dress, which also featured a full train and cathedral length veil, is timeless and elegant and will surely inspire hundreds of copy-cat looks in the years ahead.

5. Katie Couric – Married John Molner on June 21st

You may be surprised with this selection but I think Katie Couric got it right when she said “I Do” in this ivory crystal beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo. It was perfect choice for her intimate backyard summer wedding. Kudos Katie!

Honourable Mention: Angelina Jolie – Married Brad Pitt on August 23rd

Ok, I have to admit when I first saw the pictures of her dress, I was (gasp) disappointed as I wasn’t expecting it to be so simple. After all, this is Angelina Jolie who “WOWS” on the red carpet time after time so I guess I expected the same type of reaction when it came to her wedding dress. Although gorgeous, it just wasn’t what I was expecting. Now however, a couple months later, I think the silk-satin Versace gown with the long, flowing skirt fit their intimate and low-key wedding perfectly. I especially loved the artwork drawings of her children that were sewn into the dress and veil. What an incredibly special personal touch.

Bridal Style – Wedding Day Beauty

When it comes to looking your best on your wedding day, saying yes to the dress is only half the battle; you’ve got to think about beauty essentials too.  I’m no expert on makeup and other things beauty related but it’s my job, as your wedding planner, to help make your day as stress-free as possible and that’s where this post comes in.  Here are 7 tips brides should remember when it comes to wedding day beauty.  In sharing these simple tips with you, I hope you’ll avoid some of the beauty blunders brides before you have made.

makeup palettebridal beauty

Consider hiring a professional Makeup Artist

The makeup you wear every day is different than your wedding day needs.  When designing your look, a professional Makeup Artist will take into consideration your skin type, hairstyle and wedding colour palette.  Your wedding day makeup will also need to last for hours.  Think about it, that’s a long day filled with hugs, kisses, tears, dancing and let’s not forget the countless cameras that’ll be following you around too. Your makeup will need to withstand all of it and a professional Makeup Artist has the know-how to help make it happen.  Even if you’re a bride who goes the au natural route every day, make your wedding day the exception.  Just covering the basics – blush, mascara and lip gloss – will go a long way and give you the finishing touch to your overall look.

Make it about your gorgeous face

Before you start searching Google or browsing Pinterest for looks you like, stop and consider your own features first.  In our celebrity obsessed world, it’s easy to see a photograph of your favourite actress all glam on the red carpet and think “I want THAT look.” But let’s face it; if you have the fair skin complexion of Nicole Kidman, the makeup of Sophia Vergara won’t translate well.  Maximize your beautiful eyes with a few fake lashes or enhance your killer smile with the perfect lip stain. When you set out to highlight your most gorgeous feature, the rest of the makeup will fall into place.

Try a few Makeup Artists

I’m a firm believer in not every professional is going to be the right fit every client.  Throughout the planning process of your wedding, you and your fiancé probably considered a handful of options before choosing the venue, photographer and DJ.  So why not do the same when it comes to your Makeup Artist?  Give yourself time to have a few makeup applications (think of them as pre-trials) with different professionals so you can choose one who understands your personal tastes.

Book a trial run

It seems like this point can’t be stressed enough by the pros.  You don’t want to be the bride who looks in the mirror the day of her wedding and gets more and more uncomfortable with how it is coming together.  Know how you’re going to look beforehand by scheduling a trial 2 months before.  This is your opportunity to politely speak up and be honest about you like and don’t like.  Also, why not make it a fun girl’s afternoon and ask some of your bridesmaids to be there?  They can snap some photos when you’re done and you can then use them on the day of to help your makeup artist remember everything from the trial.

Think twice before changing your beauty regime

A week before your wedding isn’t the ideal time to be trying new-to-you products or to be getting an impromptu facial at your favourite spa.  To avoid a wedding day crisis, any changes or additions to your current regime should be tested weeks before the big day.  Even your eyebrows, which are standard maintenance, should be waxed and plucked a week before so you don’t have to deal with irritation or redness.

Water, water, water! Sleep, sleep, sleep!

These 2 essentials help ensure your skin is the perfect canvas for your makeup.  While water helps flush out the impurities in your skin, getting ample shuteye has a few benefits: it improves your complexion, minimizes dark under-eye circles and keeps your immune system strong so you walk down the aisle healthy. Getting ample sleep every night can also help make you a happier and calmer bride, which your bridal party will surely appreciate 🙂

Be timeless. Be YOU!

It may be last on the list but this really should be the #1 makeup rule you say “I Do” to. Heavy makeup you don’t usually wear or trying to be trendy may make you feel special the day of but this will most likely lead to a “what was I thinking” moment in 10 years when you are flipping through your wedding album.   Plus, I don’t know very many grooms; actually I have yet to come across one, who prefers their bride to look “made-up.”  Remember, he loves YOU and the way YOU look!
